Villagers busy picking grapes in smart vineyard

Shine Muscat grapes are hanging down from branches at a family farm in Guiying Village, Shipai Town, Longshan County, attracting tourists from Hunan, Hubei and Chongqing to purchase them.

The farm will hold a grape picking festival on August 20. It’s expected to yield 225,000 kg of grapes and generate 4 million yuan this year.

In recent years, the grape industry in Guiying Village has been flourishing. “In the past, we mainly relied on experience to grow grapes, and the yield and quality were unstable. Now, with the help of the smart agricultural system, we can manage vineyards more scientifically, and grapes grow better,” said Tang Zhenming, head of the vineyard, adding that with scientific management and natural planting mode, his vineyard is famous, and has become a beautiful calling card for local industrial development.

The industrial development result made by this village is inseparable from the assistance provided by the China Telecom Hunan Branch. The company fully leverages its advantages and uses cutting-edge technologies like 5G and the Internet of Things to achieve precise monitoring and management of vineyards, greatly improving the quality and yield of grapes.

“In addition to providing technologies, we also carry out online sales of grapes in the village through digital rural platforms to explore a broader market,” said the leader of the resident working team.

Today, the village is actively exploring a new model of integrated industrial development of agriculture, culture and tourism. “After the grape picking festival, we plan to jointly develop a grape restaurant with the village collective. Relying on the natural spring water in the vineyard, we will create a leisure and picking interactive experience project. I have confidence in increasing grape production to 300,000 kg and achieving an income of 5 million yuan next year,” said Tang Zhenming who was excited about his vision for future life.

After the resident working team settled in the village, China Telecom Hunan Branch has actively expanded the collective economy of the village, and its operating income reached 2.6 million yuan in 2023.

In the future, China Telecom Hunan Branch will continue to increase efforts to help the village further improve the smart agricultural system, and promote the upgrading and development of the grape industry, cured meat processing industry and lily-rice rotation industry, so as to promote rural revitalization.
